What is tomomai?
I've been working on a new tool to help players track their progress. tomomai (ともマイ) is a modern web application for tracking and analyzing your maimai DX scores.
Why did I create tomomai?
tomomai was a special creation of mine that started with me using other maimai tools like mimi dx bot and maishift. They both were great and awesome tools, but I thought I could do better. I wanted to create a tool that was more user-friendly, more customizable, and more powerful than anything else out there.
I utilized my experience in web and full-stack development to create tomomai, a website that supports different locales and provides great UI/UX.

Extras: How the name came about
The project was initially called maimai-friends, the idea was that you could share your profile or your scores with friends, and honestly I liked it a lot.
Well, it was until I needed to find a domain name for the project website. All of them suck don't they?
- maifriends.net
- maifriends.moe
- maifriends.cat
- maimaifriends.com
- maimaifriends.net
My friend Vanadium_Ice suggested tomomai.net for the project name. The conversation was just:
> me: all seems bad idk
> Vanadium_Ice: how about tomomai.net (I basically changed the name to Japanese)
> me: ~~いっしょにまい~~
> Vanadium_Ice: 一緒にまいまいするマイ
> Vanadium_Ice: 🗿
> me: 🗿
a--nd that was it.
tomomai ともマイ is a great name. It basically has these components:
- 友 means friends
- 共に means doing something together
- and it is only one syllable away from 伴い
- the idea to style it as ともマイ was that ともまい looks too similar to ともない
